Code of conduct

By being a member of this community you agree to the following rules:

1. Be kind and courteous. We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. We don’t all have to agree with each other - that would be boring - but we do have to respect each other. Comments that intend to promote, proselytise or enforce a specific view (e.g. religious, political, etc.) that are repetitive, argumentative or aggressive will be removed.

2. No hate speech or bullying. Make sure that everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.

3. Post and comment in English. The clue is in the name. There are occasions when another language is appropriate but in general non-English posts and comments will be removed.

4. No spam. No thread hijacking. Give more to this group than you take. Spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed. This includes posting the same thing in multiple groups or on multiple threads. Thread hijacking (taking the thread in a direction away from the original post's intention) is also likely to be considered spam if used to push an agenda, especially if this is contrary to the purpose of the post.

5. No fake news or conspiracy theories. Social media can either be a negative or positive influence on society. This group aims to be the latter. Back-up claims of fact with links to reputable sources. Unreferenced posts may be removed.

6. No MLM recruitment. If you don’t know what this is, you have nothing to worry about. If you do know what it is, it is forbidden. You will be removed from the community.

7. Business promotion isn't free of charge. However promotion of paid cultural events targeting the international community in Austria is allowed. Please contact hello@englishspeakers.at to enquire about advertising.

8. Job adverts targeting English speakers. Please contact hello@englishspeakers for our rates. Note that by Austrian law they must include the pay or specific Kollektivvertrag details. Also we require the organisation name, location of work and website to be explicitly named.

9. Clear and specific posts. In order to maintain the group’s usefulness and high quality, posts will only be approved if they provide enough detail to be meaningful. If your post was declined, it's probably because it was too vague. Try rewriting and submitting again.

10. Direct messaging/chat. This is NOT a dating site. Never contact another person without a genine reason. Please report members who abuse the chat facility - they will be blocked.

11. Adverts for rented accommodation. These are allowed but to reduce scams they MUST include a photo of the outside of the property which was NOT taken by Google Streetview. In this way potential tenants can check the photo against Google Streetview.
