Bank payment slips: Zahlungsanweisungen/Überweisungen

Question

I need to transfer some money to a person in Austria and the clerk told me yesterday to figure out myself what to write on the payment slip. Please tell me what should I write under

'Nur zum maschinellen Bedrucken der Zahlungsreferenz'; 'Verwendungszweck'; and 'Kontoinhaberin'?

Definitely not the world's most helpful bank clerk!

• EmpfängerIn: The name of the person/organisation you are paying.

• IBAN: Of coaxer the IBAN account number of the person you are paying. You don't need to also write the BIC if you are paying someone in the EU.

• You can ignore “Nur zum maschinellen Bedrucken der Zahlungsreferenz”.

• “Verwendungszweck” is usually the reference/billing number, etc. You will find it printed somewhere on the invoice. If you really can't find it, use the invoice number and your surname.

• “KontoinhaberIn” is you. So write your IBAN and your full name (or the name under which you opened the account you’re sending the money from).
