Building to Beta #2

ree

Today I've been trying to find a way for members to select the provinces they live, work or play in, so that they will only be presented with these on the site. I have tried several methods to do this and every time I have reached a brick wall. Today's wall appears to be using the method of badges for each province. It seems that it isn't possible for members to select (and deselect) their own badges. It isn't going to work if the admin team has to do this manually behind the scenes. I've put a call-out to Wix so I'm hoping there might be a solution somehow.

Regarding successes:

  • I've improved the look of the FAQ section. I hope it's not confusing

  • I've added a new blog section (unfortunately I'm using the same blog engine for both FAQs and the blog so blog posts also show up in the FAQs for now, although FAQs don't show up in the blog. That's the way it is at the moment.

  • I've changed the logo. I still don't think this will be The One, but I'll give it a go. The one on the left below is clean but boring. It's lacking an edge of fun. It would be more suitable for a publisher's logo. The one on the right ... OK I'll be honest: I don't like it either! It won't be staying for long. The circle is meant to represent the globe since our members come from almost literally everywhere.

  • I updated the map on the homepage which links to all our Facebook groups since a couple were missing. Somehow along the way though I made it worse. It wouldn't let me find a number of provinces whether I tried them in German or English. Switching from Safari to Chrome eventually solved the problem.

I'm also debating whether to remove the photo on the homepage. I don't think this is the photo to represent us anyway, but I think the page would be cleaner without it.

Overall I would like to find a way to launch a beta of the website: for Salzburg as a test market at first. But I've got to figure out how to limit the content that people see to that which is relevant to them first.
