Hiring employees - the right way

Updated: Apr 22

The WKÖ has produced a 50-page information booklet in English for employers about the treatment of employees and prospective employees.

It covers questions such as:

  • Which important rules concerning equal treatment must be borne in mind in the job advertisement?

  • Which questions can be asked at the interview and which topics should be avoided?

  • When do interview expenses arise and how can they be avoided?

  • What must be taken into account when employing foreign nationals?

  • What form of employment is planned? Blue collar or white collar, holiday intern or holiday employee?

  • Is an apprentice to be trained?

  • Which collective agreement applies to the employment relationship?

  • What is the contentof an employment note and how is it different from an employment contract?

  • What are the advantages of a trial period?

  • What needs to be considered when concluding a fixed-term employment contract?

  • What regulations must be observed when registering for health insurance?

  • When is the employment marginal?

  • What details must be included in the payroll account?

Of course this information is also useful for those who are employees: know your rights!

Section 1.4 is particularly relevant to job ads:-

"Since 1 March 2011, job advertisements must contain details of the minimum

remuneration. This obligation applies to

  • employers,

  • private employment agencies and

  • persons entrusted under public law with the provision of employment services."

Replying to

Yes, and it’s something we insist on in our groups when job ads are posted. This law is designed to protect those who often get poorly treated in terms of pay: immigrants and women. Both are obviously core to our community!!
