How long can I drive with my foreign (EU) number plates when I move to Austria?

The answer is that you don't have long!
One month if it's your vehicle and you move your main residence to Austria. You (and the police!) know if your main residence is in Austria because you will have a Meldezettel.
Tourists (people who's main residence is outside Austria) can drive their EU-plated car for up to 12 months. For these people, the question is how long will your insurance allow you to drive it in Austria? You will not be able to insure it in Austria without Austrian plates.
You will also have to pay the NoVA (one-off car registration tax) when you change your foreign plates for Austrian ones, since you are effectively importing your car. We have an FAQ article on the NoVA here: https://www.englishspeakers.at/post/importing-a-car-from-another-eu-country
