Emergency psychological help in Austria

Do you, or does someone you know, need professional support for psychological issues or suicidal thoughts? If you need emergency psychological help then the numbers below will help you. We have highlighted those that publicise that they can communicate in English.


Telephone numbers

We have compiled a list of national telephone numbers to help you. If you feel that you are in difficulty and losing control, don't delay...make contact with someone before it gets any worse.


  • Crisis Intervention Centre: 01 406 95 95 (Vienna, English spoken)

  • Advice and help for suicidal people: 0810 97 71 55

  • Helpline of the Professional Association of Austrian Psychologists: 01/504 80 00

  • Psychiatric emergency assistance: 01 313 30 (0-24 hrs)

  • Protestant and Catholic emergency pastoral care: 142

  • Ö3 Kummernummer (Ö3 "sorrow number" [Hitradio Ö3 is one of the nationwide radio stations of Austria's public broadcaster ORF]): 116 123

  • Rat auf Draht (Advice on the wire): 147 (0-24h, for children and adolenscents)

  • Telephone counselling: 142 (English spoken)

  • Emergency services (ambulance): 144
