Emergency telephone numbers

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

You never know when you will need one of these so we wanted to make sure that they are easy to find in the FAQ section of our site. The up-to-date list is here.

There is a trick to remembering the main three numbers:

  • 122: Fire service. The "2" is like a firefighter's hose

  • 133: Police. The "3" is like a pair of handcuffs

  • 144: Ambulance. The "4" when most people handwrite it is like the "+" sign of a hospital

Other useful numbers in an emergency

  • 112: Single European emergency number

  • 128: Gas emergency

  • 140: Mountain rescue

  • 141: Emergency doctor

  • 142: Crisis hotline

  • 147: Emergency services for children and young people

  • 01 406 43 43: Poison centre
