Question
Has anyone had their bike officially registered with the police and got the number 'stamped' in the frame? Which police station (or company) does that kind of service?
Answer
This is definitely worth doing if your bike is new or valuable: anecdotal evidence from our members suggests that bike theft is one of the few serious crime problems in Salzburg.
The place to go is Carlavelorep which is quite near the train station in Salzburg (Elisabethstraße 17). The bike shop is a social organisation linked to Caritas which helps people to get a foothold in the employment market. They sell reconditioned second-hand bikes too (good to know!) as well as offering a complete repair service.
Bike coding takes place on Thursdays from 15:00 to 17:00 and costs €28.
You are asked to book an appointment first by telephone on 05 1760 5071.
