If you are new in Austria or have moved house, you will need to know where your local government office is. You will need it for a range of services including:
Local parking permits (Vienna)
Austrian passport applications
How can I find my local government office?
This depends on where you live. In Vienna you will have a local district office (see next section). Outside Vienna, in larger cities you need the Magistrat. Elsewhere you have a local Gemeinde office.
Nationwide
You can find your local government office using this postcode finder: https://www.oesterreich.gv.at/en/themen/dokumente_und_recht/an__abmeldung_des_wohnsitzes/Seite.1180200.html#ZustaendigeStellen
Vienna
Importantly, note that for registration (Meldebestätigung/Meldezettel) and Austrian passport matters you do not need to go to a specific office. You can for example go to one that is known to be less busy. Tanja Weißenböck always recommends trying the office for the first district. Depending on the subject matter and urgency it may also possible to send the forms in by email.
A list of district offices in Vienna and their opening hours is here: https://www.wien.gv.at/verwaltung/meldeservice/stellen.html
