The laws you didn't know existed

Updated: Sep 10, 2023

We all fall foul of laws we didn't know about here in Austria. There is a list of them by local area arranged by province. Whether it's warming up your car engine in winter, washing your car at home, cutting the grass on a Sunday, rules for dog ownership, or beating your rugs out of your window, there seem to be rules for everything.

Search for your local authority here:

For example, the rules include:

  • Work in house and garden

  • Lawn mowing - usually prohibited on Sundays and public holidays: see also our article here

  • Regulations concerning motor vehicles

  • Car washing - usually not allowed on the street

  • Warming up engines

  • Noise pollution from mopeds

  • Snow removal and gritting obligation: see also our article here

  • Dog ownership: Registration, de-registration and species-appropriate rules; muzzle and lead requirements; dog excrement

  • Rubbish/Garbage
